Erin Badman is a soulful artist who transcends boundaries. Her music has been described as “genre-bending”, drawing on a variety of styles, including electronic music, trip hop, choral music, ambient pop, and Jazz. Though characterised by her Soprano vocal range and velvety tone, a gritty, darker element often pulses through her tracks, creating a striking contrast to her dreamy vocal style and poetic lyrics. When asked to describe her music, Erin explained that her songs were like “futuristic lullabies that sometimes lingered on the edge of a beautiful nightmare.” This juxtaposition adds depth and complexity to her sound, offering an emotional tension that draws listeners in.
Erin’s musical journey began at a young age, finding solace in the Jazz songs that filled the air of a tiny bar where she began singing at just 16 years old. These early influences would later shape her distinctive vocal style and evocative lyricism. Starting her career under the alias *Esme*, Erin’s deeply personal and shy nature led her to create under a different name while she eased into her sound. Her first release ‘Come with me’ saw her opening for Amy Shark at MTV unplugged in Melbourne Australia and her second release ‘I wonder’ produced by Nick Herrera (Nai Palm) was described as ‘Alienesque’ by Jackson Langford (Purple Sneakers). In 2018 Erin caught the attention of producers Royce Wood Junior (known for his work with NAO) Chris Penny ‘CPEN’ (Honey Djion, Beyonce) and The Twilite Tone (Gorillaz, Kanye West), so she took a leap of faith and travelled to Brooklyn USA to create a body of work that set her apart and ignited her love of electro-acoustic soundscapes.
Over time, Erin grew into her self, embracing her power as an artist and transitioned to her own name to reflect this growth. Collaborating with producers like Godriguez and Ken Allars, Erin’s tracks such as ‘Still’ and ‘Wise One’ showcase her evolution, blending raw vulnerability with experimental sounds. Her music remains a reflection of self-discovery, with a quiet confidence that draws listeners into a world of emotional depth and sonic exploration. As she continues to grow as an artist, Erin’s sound remains a powerful testament to the beauty in embracing one’s true self, with its bold contrasts, poetic lyrics and haunting melodies.
